Fed up I was. Gorilla Unit’s and Making the Band-ers dominated the FM band, and I had already started tuning into classic rock stations. Then it happened again. Not since the WU’s 36 Chambers had an album revived my love for hip-hop; hip-hop in its most honest and culturally analytical form.Resonating with disillusioned youth, Kanye’s “College Dropout” is a culmination of years of brilliant producing. His somewhat cynical view of education, mixed with beats paralleled only in Timbaland albums, along with a flawless flow, keeps the CD on repeat and the volume on high. Bringing laughter with “We Don’t Dare” and well, awe with “Keep ‘Em High,”West has placed me on permanent vacation from KaZAA. Bling is dying [thank f***ing God], and respect is returning to real MCs. So add Kanye to the list of Mos Def, Rakim, and other greats…and you might wanna add him to your shopping list as well. -MC
