An Introduction to FRANK SMITH: Burn This House DownA collaborative effort from various members of Boston’s indie rock scene, the Frank Smith LP encompasses true roots feelings amidst vintage R&B influences. A collaborative effort from various members of Boston’s indie rock scene, the Frank Smith LP encompasses true roots feelings amidst vintage R&B influences. The country-strum-gitah, ala Julian Cassanetti and Scott Toomey, sets the tone to this sleepy, melodic recording. Combined with Aaron Sinclair and Jon Lami’s keyboards/percussion/harmonica, this LP deserves more than your usual “take a chance on an unknown CD” type of purchase. The musical influences are slight which lends your ear to appreciate the songs. For example, Scott Toomey’s subtle voice resembles a mellower Jeff Tweedy. And that’s totally cool. I mean, I’m a Wilco fan anyway so what the fu*k?All the songs have a similar style and pace which makes for some great drivin’ music. I liked track # 8,“Wasting Away”, it strays off the beaten path by offering the listener a morning-after dose of reality and exhaustion. To top it off, the background vocals by Dan Burke, Dave Vicini and Hari Hassan blend nicely with the songs. Good stuff boys. Nice artwork by Dave Vicini too. For more info go to lonesomerecordings.com.
