Sticky Fingaz first burst on to the scene when his group Onyx was discovered by the late great Jam Master Jay in 1992. Since then Fingazs harsh lyrical flow has been accompanied by his desire to be in front of the camera. And no, I don’t mean there is a tape of him double teaming Rihanna with Colin Farrell somewhere out there. At least I hope there isn’t……

Fingaz made his acting debut in Spike Lee’s critically acclaimed Clockers (1995.) Since then Sticky Fingaz, real name Kirk Jones, has been in a constant struggle to balance his hip-hop street cred with his acting reputation.

To keep his street thug mentality in check he has appeared on such prime time hit programs as The Shield and CSI. But he threw us all a nasty curve ball when he signed on to be the lead character in the TV adaptation of Stephen Norrington’s Blade. Jones plays a half mortal vampire slayer hell-bent on keeping the streets of Detroit safe. This is Sticky Fingaz biggest role to date and he plans to use his new found stardom to keep his creative wheels flowing.

Sticky Fingaz is writing, directing, producing and starring in a modern day hip hop musical, set to hit the big screen sometime with in the next year. Wait, what did I say? Yes, I said musical. It’s kinda like West Side Story 40 years later or what I like to think of it as….. The Sound of Music meets Menace II Society. The movie, titled A Day in the Life, is currently in post-production and could hit theaters as early as September. The film is entirely in rap dialog. Fingaz recently stated at the BET awards, “I do music and I do movies. So I just merged the two together, like gumbo.”

The all star cast features Omar Epps, Mekhi Phifer, Michael Rapport, and Robert De Nero’s daughter, Drena. And what hip hop movie would be complete without a barrage of fellow rappers. A Day in the Life features Kurupt, Lil’ Zane and Naughty by Nature’s Treach.

As far as Onyx goes, they are preparing for a new 2007 release called Black Rock which will be accompanied by a DVD history of the group.
