There are those that dream, those that dwell and those that hope. The time has arrived where all their passion and loyalty has paid off. The missing piece from the hip-hop world will find it self back in the habit this September.
A Tribe Called Quest is hittin the road for the first time this millennium. When I say tribe called quest I don’t mean Phife Dawg is spittin over new beats or Ali Shaheed is spinnin old school jams. I mean the original trifecta (Q-Tip, Phife, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad) will take the stage together as what has become known simply as Tribe.
“The Tribe” disbanded in 1998 after there album The Love Movement showed signs of aging. Phife released his solo debut in 2000 and stepped out of the limelight shortly after. Q-Tip stayed active in the game poppin up on mix tapes and compilations over the past few years. But the greatest hip-hop duo of all time has never been able to reach the level of success on their own that they reached performing together.
And what has brought Tribe back together? A death in the hip hop world? Turmoil in the ghetto? A new album? Oddly enough, it’s a videogame. Yep, you heard right, a video game.
Tribe is featured in the NBA 2K7 soundtrack (Dan the Automator remixes “Lyrics to Go” — from the group’s 1993 album, Midnight Marauders.) They will be featured as the headlining act on the games “
Bounce Tour.” The games soundtrack will be available mid-September.
NBA 2K7 will be out this fall on Xbox 360, Xbox, and PS2.
A Tribe Called Quest will be @
The Palladium in Worcester, Mass on September 29th
